When Kimberly Braine-Tillem, Founder and Executive Director, experienced the hardship of single motherhood, she went on a journey across country to get back to her support system. While on the trip, God showed her a detailed vision of how she would make it through her situation, thrive, and share her experiences with others to encourage and empower them to persevere. The SOPHIE House was founded in 2010 as a 501C3 and continues today, meeting women where they are and helping them set goals, accomplish them, and move forward and thrive.
We currently offer support for single women and single moms in the Richmond area. When clients reach out to us through the web or by phone, we talk with them to find out what their situation is and then meet with them to encourage and support them through their situation. By meeting immediate needs such as food, clothes, and emergency funding, we allow them to take a step forward and then we offer other services such as counseling, life coaching, financial planning and budgeting, educational seminars and classes and more.
Where are we going? The Sophie House strives to be the leading resource for single women and single moms in the Richmond area. We strive to give the program participants in our area support that they can’t find elsewhere; As we look to the future we plan to expand the education and skills training offered to our clients and their teens. By helping our clients expand their job skills, we can help them increase their earning potential to help support their family. We are also working toward more housing opportunities that would allow them to secure their own homes for themselves and their family.
